National Lutheran Communities & Services remains optimistic and committed to bringing The Village at Providence Point* to Annapolis, as the project awaits a ruling from the Appellate Court of Maryland following oral arguments held February 7 in Annapolis.

We celebrated many milestones in 2022 and are excited to share them with you in this report, which has been re-envisioned with video messages from leadership and mission supporters as well as highlights and photos from each entity. It also includes detailed information on the financial performance of the organization.

National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) vowed today to continue its fight for The Village at Providence Point in Annapolis, despite a recent court filing by a small group called the Crab Creek Conservancy asking for judicial review of the Annapolis Planning Commission’s April 26 Supplemental Opinion and Order clarifying and affirming its approval of the project.

The Annapolis Planning Commission has responded to a request from Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Mark W. Crooks for information that explains the reasoning behind its decision to approve a variance request for The Village at Providence Point senior living community.

On February 17, The City of Annapolis’s Planning Commission unanimously voted to approve the planned-unit development application for The Village at Providence Point—A National Lutheran Community (Providence Point).

After a fourth round of public hearings last week, there's light at the end of the tunnel! The Village at Providence Point's project team finished its formal presentations Thursday, Feb. 3, highlighting various aspects of land use and the property's history. The City of Annapolis's Planning Commission will keep public comment open until the next virtual meeting on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. This will also allow time for the Commission to further digest the application before it goes to a vote. On Thursday, January 20, The Village at Providence Point's project team completed a third round of presentations to Annapolis's Planning Commission. These public presentations highlighted architecture and traffic improvements, featuring Architect Aaron Campbell of Perkins Eastman and Traffic Consultant Nancy Randall.

Former Maryland Governor Parris N. Glendening, also known as the originator of the Smart Growth movement in Maryland, recently penned a letter to the editor in The Capital Gazette lauding the collaboration between National Lutheran Communities & Services and Concerned Citizens for Proper Land Use on The Village at Providence Point project.

Over the last few years, our project team has closely collaborated with community groups and individuals to resolve any remaining concerns about our proposed continuing care retirement community.

The Village at Providence Point's project team completed a second round of presentations during the City of Annapolis's Planning Commission hearing on Thursday, January 6. These presentations highlighted forest conservation and landscape architecture, featuring Mike Klebasko of Wetland Studies and Solutions and Mark Pelusi of Mahan Rykiel Associates.

The Village at Providence Point gave an introductory presentation of its planned unit development application to The City of Annapolis's Planning Commission on Thursday evening, December 16. The presentation and public commentary will continue into the New Year, with the next virtual public hearing on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 7 p.m.

This recent filing is a response to collaborative feedback from the City of Annapolis and Annapolis community members.

Rockville, MD- National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) filed an amended planned unit development application with the City of Annapolis on May 4, 2020, for its proposed continuing care retirement community The Village at Providence Point—A National Lutheran Community. This submittal, which includes a forest conservation plan, a subdivision plan and site plan, amends the previous January 22, 2019 filing. This amended May filing comes after receiving feedback in the summer and fall of 2019 from the City of Annapolis and Annapolis community members regarding the previous submission.
